Polymer Clay Art by Julie Timis
Mixed Media Polymer Clay On Canvas
These past 2 weeks. I have decided to try something different. Something I haven’t tried before but always been in my to do list. The moment has come for me to give it a try. So, I created a mixed media canvas. I’m always drawn to those beautiful layers of paint colours, with aged metallic look and the idea of using other materials and putting them together into one beautiful piece. Of course, I have to add my favourite medium on it. I’ve been making a collection of floral polymer clay on canvas. This week I created this cherry blossoms canvas. I am pretty happy how this canvas turned out. The texture that I added to this canvas are crumpled parchment papers and embossing paste. I used layers of metallic acrylic paint, black & white paint, viva inca gold and lindy stamp gang spray. Flowers, branches and wood are all hand sculpted using polymer clay. The color combination I used for this canvas, compliments the beautiful flowers. Here’s my other mixed media wall arts: Roses and leaves on this canvas are all polymer clay. Texture background is cheesecloth layered with paint. Butterflies are made of chipboard. Flowers on this canvas are orchids. It is a skinner blend of orange and red clay. I am pretty pleased on how this canvas turned out . The background colour are done using sponge and paint. All of these wall arts are available in my shop for purchase.
Steps On How I Create The Journal & Sketchbook Covers
The process of making the journal and sketchbook covers are all handmade from start to finish. It takes about 2 – 36 hours, depending on the amount of details on the design. I use sculpey premo polymer clay and materials. They are made to be durable for everyday use. Process involves conditioning clay, shaping, cutting, sculpting, hand stamping, finishing it with different mediums, curing for 40 minutes or more, gluing it to the journal, sketchbook or notebook, sealing and last step is to let dry. Then your journal is ready for packaging and shipment. Because it is handmade, nothing is exactly the same. This makes every journal and sketchbook covers unique and special. Same in any other art pieces I created. It is not mass produced nor machine made. My love, my time, my passion are in every pieces I make.
